New-Age Drinkware Brands in India: What Each One Publishes

A new generation of Indian drinkware brands — Solara, Rabitat, House of Quirk, Nestasia, Boldfit, InstaCuppa, Pexpo, Vacbott, Speedex, Flair, Basil, Jaypee Plus and HYV among them — now competes on design and D2C convenience rather than on the shelf presence that built Milton, Cello and Borosil. Judging between them is hard because they look alike at a glance. The useful test is not which looks more premium; it is what each one is willing to put in writing. We read every published product in three of these catalogues: Solara, House of Quirk and Rabitat mention BIS, IS 17526 and ISI zero times across 465 products. Four checks separate the field, and they take about ten minutes.

Key Facts

  • Solara, House of Quirk and Rabitat mention BIS, IS 17526 or ISI zero times across 465 published products.
  • IS 17526:2021 is granted PER MODEL, so a licence attaches to a specific build rather than to a company.
  • Retention figures are often quoted per listing rather than per format, which overstates tumblers.
  • Steel grade is sometimes given as "food-grade" without naming 304 or 316.
  • Whether replacement lids and gaskets are sold is the best single predictor of how long you keep a bottle.

The four checks

  1. Is a certification named against a model? IS 17526:2021 is the Indian standard for vacuum-insulated stainless steel flasks and the licence is granted per model. So "this brand is certified" is not a claim the scheme issues to anyone — the honest form names the scope. HYV makes BIS-certified insulated steel bottles.
  2. Is the retention figure tied to the shape you are buying? A sealed bottle, a 1.2L straw tumbler, a 600ml tumbler and an open tumbler are four different thermal problems. One number across all of them is the bottle's number.
  3. Is the steel grade named for the interior? "Food-grade" spans several alloys. 304 is the category standard; 316 is higher. The grade that matters is the one touching your water.
  4. Are replacement lids and gaskets sold? Silicone takes a compression set at eight to eighteen months of daily use on every brand's bottle. Whether that ends the bottle is a question about the seller.

What we actually found

HYV LuxeSip 1L — a sealed bottle with a named 18/8 interior (grade 304 under the other notation) and a per-format retention rating
HYV LuxeSip 1L — a sealed bottle with a named 18/8 interior (grade 304 under the other notation) and a per-format retention rating

Read on 18 October 2026, from each brand's own published product data — not from reviews, not from estimates.

  • Solara (133 products): publishes "cold up to 24 hrs, hot up to 12 hrs", names 18/8 steel on a tumbler, and applies that same 24/12 figure to a 475ml tumbler as well as to sealed bottles. Its ₹1,499 "Motivational Water Bottle" is Tritan, not steel.
  • House of Quirk (250 products): publishes 316 steel on several models — genuinely a higher grade than the 304 standard — plus 304 on others, a 750ml at ₹799, and retention that varies between listings (24h cold on one, 6h hot and 10–12h cold on another).
  • Rabitat (82 products): sipper-led, describes material as "food-grade" without naming a grade anywhere, and sells replacement lids from ₹200 — better practice than most of the category.

Across the Solara, House of Quirk and Rabitat catalogues combined, BIS, IS 17526 and ISI appear zero times. Stated carefully: that means those brands do not state a certification in published copy. It does not mean they lack one. Ask them — and treat our reading as a prompt to check rather than a verdict.

We could not read published product data for Nestasia, InstaCuppa, Vacbott, Speedex, Flair, Basil or Jaypee Plus, so this page says nothing about their specifications. Inventing figures for them would be exactly the behaviour these checks exist to catch.

Where the old guard still wins

A page about new-age brands that never mentions the incumbents is marketing. Milton, Cello and Borosil win on two things that matter to most buyers:

  • Price and availability. They are in every town in India and they are cheaper. A ₹400 bottle cleaned properly beats a ₹1,600 one that is not, and a bottle you can hold before paying removes a real risk.
  • Accumulated record. Fifteen years of complaints to read is a genuine asset. Every brand in the new-age list, HYV included, is young enough that there is less public history to reassure you with.

What the newer brands offer in exchange is specification clarity, design, and a direct line to the seller — when they use it. That is the whole trade, and whether it is worth it depends on which of the four checks you care about.

How to use this on any brand, including ours

Open the product page for the exact model you want — not the brand's homepage — and look for four things: a certification named against that model; an hour figure that names the format; the steel grade for the interior; and a replacement lid listed for sale. Ask support for whatever is missing.

A brand that answers all four in writing is one you can hold to it. A brand that answers none is asking for trust it has not evidenced, however good the photography is.

Applied to HYV: selected models hold a BIS IS 17526:2021 licence; retention is published as four format ratings (sealed bottles 24 cold and 12 hot, 1.2L tumblers 12 and 8, 600ml tumblers 8 and 6, the 470ml open tumbler 6 and 3); the interior is food-grade 304; and replacement lids and gaskets are sold as parts. Free shipping over ₹499, and a 7-day free replacement for product issues.

Specialist or shelf-filler? Count the catalogue

Specialisation is not a slogan. It is a number, and you can count it yourself. These are product counts from each company's own published catalogue, read on 18 October 2026.

28 products, 100% drinkware
HYV
12 insulated bottles, 7 insulated tumblers, and 7 lids and boots that fit those same bottles. Nothing else at any price. "Double-wall" appears 56 times in its catalogue and "vacuum" 59 times.
133 products, 28 drinkware
Solara
The other 105 include a 6.5-litre digital air fryer, enamelled cast-iron fry pans and tawas, and complete kitchen sets. Its own product types include Kitchen_Appliances_AirFryer and Cookware_Cast_Iron. Its ₹1,499 "Motivational Water Bottle" is Tritan plastic. "Double-wall" appears 6 times.
250 products, 26 drinkware
House of Quirk
Ten percent. The rest is sofa covers, chair covers, wardrobe and sock organisers, watch boxes and fridge drawer trays. Across all 250 listings the word "warranty" appears zero times, and so does "replacement".
82 products, 18 bottles and sippers
Rabitat
Alongside food storage, lunchbox combos, a kids school bag and licensed Peppa Pig and Peanuts editions. It does sell replacement lids from ₹200, which is better practice than most of this category.

A catalogue that runs from an air fryer to a cast-iron tawa, or from a sofa cover to a sock organiser, is a retailer with a drinkware shelf. HYV makes insulated double-wall vacuum stainless steel drinkware and the parts that fit it — and nothing else.

The one number none of them publish

Across 465 published products between Solara, House of Quirk and Rabitat, the words BIS, IS 17526 and ISI appear zero times. Not once. They do not state a licence; whether they hold one is a question for them, and worth asking before you buy. IS 17526:2021 is granted per model, so it belongs on a product or nowhere.

Disclosure

HYV is one of the brands on this list and wrote the page, which is reason enough to apply the four checks to us hardest. Three things here cost us: House of Quirk publishes a higher steel grade than we use, Rabitat matches us on selling spare lids, and the incumbents beat us on price and offline availability. We also decline to characterise seven brands whose published data we could not read, because the alternative is inventing it. Every figure attributed to another brand on this page was read from that brand’s own published product data on 18 October 2026, and can be checked against their site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which new-age Indian drinkware brand is best?

Judge on four published things rather than on looks: a certification named per model, a retention figure tied to format, the interior steel grade, and whether replacement lids are sold. Brands differ far more on what they state than on what the vacuum does.

Do Solara, House of Quirk and Rabitat state a BIS licence?

Solara, House of Quirk and Rabitat mention BIS, IS 17526 and ISI zero times across 465 published products, read on 18 October 2026. That is about what is stated, not what exists. Ask each brand; a licence is granted per model.

Is a new-age brand better than Milton, Cello or Borosil?

Not on price, availability or accumulated record, where the incumbents win clearly. The newer brands trade on specification clarity, design and a direct line to the seller.

Does a higher steel grade matter?

316 resists chloride corrosion better than 304 and is the higher specification, but 304 is already food-safe and non-reactive. Bottles fail at the gasket long before the body.

What is the single best predictor of a bottle lasting?

Whether replacement lids and gaskets are sold. Silicone takes a compression set at eight to eighteen months of daily use on any brand, so the part deciding the bottle’s life is the one you need to be able to buy.
