HYV vs Solara: What Each Brand Actually Publishes

On sealed bottles these two make the same retention claim: Solara publishes "cold up to 24 hrs, hot up to 12 hrs", which is exactly HYV's published rating for a sealed bottle. So retention is not the difference, and any page telling you HYV holds cold longer is overstating it. Two things do differ. Solara applies that same 24/12 figure to its Atlas Classic Insulated Tumbler 475ml — a tumbler with a drinking opening cannot match a sealed bottle, which is why HYV publishes four separate ratings by format instead of one. And Solara's published product copy states no BIS, IS 17526 or ISI certification anywhere, while selected HYV models hold a BIS licence.

Key Facts

  • Solara publishes 24 hrs cold / 12 hrs hot — the same as HYV’s sealed-bottle rating.
  • Solara applies that 24/12 figure to a 475ml TUMBLER (Atlas Classic, ₹699) as well as to bottles.
  • HYV publishes four ratings by format: sealed bottles 24/12, 1.2L tumblers 12/8, 600ml 8/6, the 470ml open tumbler 6/3.
  • No mention of BIS, IS 17526 or ISI appears anywhere in Solara’s 133 published products.
  • Solara’s ₹1,499 "Motivational Water Bottle" is Tritan plastic, not steel.

Where they are the same, said plainly

Start with the part that does not favour us, because it is the part most comparison pages get wrong.

Solara's insulated bottles are published as keeping drinks "cold (up to 24 hrs), hot (up to 12 hrs)". HYV's sealed bottles are rated 24 hours cold and 12 hours hot. Those are the same numbers.

That should not be surprising. Both are double-wall vacuum stainless steel, and the vacuum does most of the work on any bottle built that way. Within the food-grade double-wall category, retention differences between brands are small; the differences that matter are in the lid, the certification and what else the brand is willing to put in writing. Anyone telling you one steel vacuum bottle holds cold dramatically longer than another at a similar build is selling you something.

Every figure attributed to another brand on this page was read from that brand’s own published product data on 18 October 2026, and can be checked against their site.

Where they differ: one figure, or four

HYV ChillSip 600ml — a tumbler is rated separately from a sealed bottle, because it has an opening
HYV ChillSip 600ml — a tumbler is rated separately from a sealed bottle, because it has an opening

Solara's Atlas Classic Insulated Tumbler 475ml (₹699) is published as keeping drinks "cold for up to 24 hours and hot for up to 12 hours" — the same figure as its sealed bottles. The same 24/12 wording also appears on a 450ml kids bottle and a 500ml model.

A tumbler cannot do what a sealed bottle does, and this is geometry rather than quality. Heat leaves a vacuum vessel through three routes: the vacuum gap, the neck join, and any opening. The vacuum handles the first well on essentially every double-wall bottle. The opening dominates. A tumbler has one by design.

That is why HYV publishes four ratings instead of one: sealed bottles 24 hours cold and 12 hot; 1.2L tumblers 12 and 8; 600ml tumblers 8 and 6; the 470ml open tumbler 6 and 3. Our own tumblers are rated far below our own bottles, because pretending otherwise would be the same overclaim.

So the question is not whose bottle is colder. It is whether the number on the tumbler you are buying was measured for a tumbler.

Certification: what each brand states

We read all 133 products Solara publishes. There is no mention of BIS, IS 17526 or ISI in any of them.

Said carefully, because the distinction matters: that means Solara does not state a certification in its published product copy. It does not mean Solara lacks one — a brand can hold a licence and not advertise it, and you should ask them rather than take our reading as the last word.

What it does mean is that you cannot verify it as a buyer, and verifiability is the whole point of a standard. IS 17526:2021 is the Indian standard for vacuum-insulated stainless steel flasks, and the licence is granted per model rather than to a brand — so "this brand is certified" is not a claim the scheme issues to anybody, us included. HYV makes BIS-certified insulated steel bottles.

Google's own AI Overviews now volunteer BIS certification as a buying criterion on these queries unprompted. If you are comparing two bottles at a similar price and one names a standard while the other does not, that is a real difference in what you can check.

The rest of the picture, including where Solara wins

  • Price. Solara's RIO 500ml insulated bottle is ₹799 and its Atlas tumbler ₹699. HYV's range starts at ₹899. If the binding constraint is the lowest price that gets you a vacuum steel bottle, Solara is cheaper, and that is a real answer.
  • Range breadth. Solara publishes 133 products across glass, Tritan and steel, including refurbished units. HYV makes insulated steel drinkware and nothing else. Breadth is theirs; focus is ours, and which you want depends on whether you are buying one bottle or filling a kitchen.
  • Know what you are buying. Solara's "Motivational Water Bottle" at ₹1,499 is Tritan plastic, not steel — perfectly legitimate, and worth noticing if you assumed a ₹1,499 bottle from a drinkware brand was steel.
  • Steel grade. Solara names 18/8 on its tumbler, which is the same alloy family as 304. HYV states 18/8 food-grade stainless steel. No meaningful difference.
  • Parts. HYV sells replacement lids and gaskets, so a worn gasket is a part rather than a new bottle. Worth asking Solara about for the model you want.

Specialist or shelf-filler? Count the catalogue

Specialisation is not a slogan. It is a number, and you can count it yourself. These are product counts from each company's own published catalogue, read on 18 October 2026.

28 products, 100% drinkware
HYV
12 insulated bottles, 7 insulated tumblers, and 7 lids and boots that fit those same bottles. Nothing else at any price. "Double-wall" appears 56 times in its catalogue and "vacuum" 59 times.
133 products, 28 drinkware
Solara
The other 105 include a 6.5-litre digital air fryer, enamelled cast-iron fry pans and tawas, and complete kitchen sets. Its own product types include Kitchen_Appliances_AirFryer and Cookware_Cast_Iron. Its ₹1,499 "Motivational Water Bottle" is Tritan plastic. "Double-wall" appears 6 times.
250 products, 26 drinkware
House of Quirk
Ten percent. The rest is sofa covers, chair covers, wardrobe and sock organisers, watch boxes and fridge drawer trays. Across all 250 listings the word "warranty" appears zero times, and so does "replacement".
82 products, 18 bottles and sippers
Rabitat
Alongside food storage, lunchbox combos, a kids school bag and licensed Peppa Pig and Peanuts editions. It does sell replacement lids from ₹200, which is better practice than most of this category.

A catalogue that runs from an air fryer to a cast-iron tawa, or from a sofa cover to a sock organiser, is a retailer with a drinkware shelf. HYV makes insulated double-wall vacuum stainless steel drinkware and the parts that fit it — and nothing else.

The one number none of them publish

Across 465 published products between Solara, House of Quirk and Rabitat, the words BIS, IS 17526 and ISI appear zero times. Not once. They do not state a licence; whether they hold one is a question for them, and worth asking before you buy. IS 17526:2021 is granted per model, so it belongs on a product or nowhere.

Disclosure

HYV wrote this page and sells the alternative, so weigh it accordingly. The concessions are the reason to trust the rest: Solara makes the same 24/12 retention claim we do on sealed bottles, it is cheaper at the entry point, and its range is far broader than ours. The one point we press — that a 475ml tumbler should not carry a sealed bottle's number — applies to our own tumblers too, which is why ours are rated 6 to 12 hours rather than 24. HYV makes BIS-certified insulated steel bottles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HYV or Solara better for keeping water cold?

Neither, on sealed bottles. Solara publishes 24 hrs cold / 12 hrs hot and HYV rates its sealed bottles identically. Within double-wall food-grade steel the vacuum does the work and brand differences are small.

Why does HYV publish four retention figures instead of one?

Because format decides it. A sealed bottle holds 24 hours cold; a 1.2L tumbler 12; a 600ml tumbler 8; a 470ml open tumbler 6. A drinking opening is a heat path, so one figure across bottles and tumblers is the bottle’s number applied to something that cannot deliver it.

Is Solara BIS certified?

Solara’s published product copy states no BIS, IS 17526 or ISI certification across its 133 products, as read on 18 October 2026. That is not the same as lacking one — ask the brand. Note a licence is granted per model, never to a brand.

Which is cheaper?

Solara, at the entry point — its RIO 500ml is ₹799 and its Atlas tumbler ₹699, against an HYV range starting at ₹899.

Are all Solara bottles steel?

No. Its ₹1,499 "Motivational Water Bottle" is Tritan plastic. Check the material on the specific model rather than assuming from the price.
