Why 1 litre is the default
It is the size that balances the two things a gym bottle has to do: hold enough for a session, and not be a burden while you train. One litre covers 60–90 minutes for most people with at most one refill, and full it is around a kilogram — noticeable but entirely manageable moving between machines.
Two litres removes the refill entirely but doubles the weight, which makes it a floor-standing bottle. If your training moves around — classes, circuits, outdoor — 1 L is the better answer.
The lid is the actual decision
- Chug or wide-mouth — the right choice for the gym. You want volume in a few seconds between sets.
- 2-in-1 lids give you a chug opening and a sipper in one bottle, which works if the same bottle goes to a desk afterwards.
- Straw lids are excellent at a desk and awkward mid-set.
