Insulation, at any price. Copper conducts heat readily and there is no vacuum insulated copper bottle — so a ₹2,500 copper bottle keeps water cold no better than a ₹400 one, which is to say not at all.
If temperature retention is what you want, that is a different product entirely. Copper is bought for the traditional practice of overnight storage, and judged on that basis rather than on performance.
Before you buy
- Confirm it is unlined. A lacquered interior removes the point.
- Check the magnet. Copper is not magnetic; a magnet sticking means plated steel.
- Look at the neck threads and the base seam.
- Accept the maintenance. Lemon and salt every two to three weeks is not optional.
