A sealed flask is the best personalisation surface in drinkware, for a boring geometric reason: it is a straight-sided cylinder, so a mark does not distort the way it does on a tapered tumbler, and the panel is tall. The two things that go wrong are both avoidable. A silicone boot covers the bottom 40 to 50 mm, so a mark placed low disappears the first time the boot goes on — and nobody checks, because the proof photograph is usually taken without it. And a mark too close to the shoulder gets lost in the curve. Place the mark in the middle third. HYV engraves from 25 units with engraving included.
Key Facts
- A sealed flask is straight-sided, so artwork does not distort as it does on a tapered tumbler.
- A silicone boot covers the bottom 40-50 mm — a low mark disappears when the boot goes on.
- Keep the mark in the middle third, clear of the shoulder curve and the boot line.
- Laser etching is permanent and dishwasher-proof; printing wears at the contact points.
- HYV personalises from 25 units with engraving included on corporate orders.
Why a flask beats a tumbler for a mark
A tumbler is tapered so it fits a cup holder. That taper is a cone, and artwork wrapped round a cone skews: straight lines bow, circles become ellipses, and wide marks distort at the edges.
A sealed flask is a straight-sided cylinder for most of its height. Artwork wrapped round a cylinder is only curved in one axis, which the eye forgives almost completely — so a logo reads as the logo, and a long name stays a straight line.
Which means if the mark is the point of the order — a full company lockup, a long name, a date — the flask is the body to choose and it is worth changing format for. On a tapered mug the same artwork has to be simplified.
The boot line, which nobody checks

This is the single most common personalisation mistake on flasks and it is invisible until the gift is unwrapped.
A silicone boot sits on the base and rises 40 to 50 mm up the body. If the mark is placed in the lower third — which looks balanced on a bare bottle — the boot covers part or all of it. Proof photographs are almost always taken without the boot fitted, so the error survives approval.
Three rules that prevent it:
- Ask for the boot height in millimetres and add 10 mm of clearance.
- Ask for the proof photographed with the boot on if the order includes boots.
- Place the mark in the middle third of the body — clear of the boot below and the shoulder curve above.
HYV's 1 litre bodies — LuxeSip and LuxeFlow at ₹1,699, MagFlex 1L at ₹1,899 — give the tallest panel in the range; the LuxeSip ships with a boot, so the clearance question applies to it by default. Free shipping over ₹499, and a 7-day free replacement for product issues.

Etch or print on a sealed flask
Laser etching. Permanent, dishwasher-proof, one tone — the colour of the steel under the coat. On a matte powder-coated flask it cuts to bright steel, which is a strong contrast and a surprise to anyone expecting white. It is the right choice for anything meant to last.
Printing. Full colour and fine detail, and it wears where hands and bases make contact. A one-season promotional flask can be printed; a gift someone keeps should be etched.
What not to do: etch across a seam if the body has one, or across the shoulder. Both read as a fault rather than a design.
One practical point for mixed orders: if you are ordering two colours, get a proof on each. The same artwork at the same power reads differently on a dark matte body and a light one, and the lighter colour is usually the one that disappoints.
What a personalised flask cannot do
It cannot be resold. Which means it cannot be returned for a change of mind, minimums exist for setup rather than stock, and a spelling error is scrap. Proof-read the list with someone who did not type it.
It cannot be re-marked. An etch is permanent, so a date, a designation or a year is a commitment. "Senior Manager" on a flask ages badly; a name does not.
It does not change the product. Personalisation adds nothing thermal and takes nothing away. The flask holds 24 hours cold etched or plain. HYV makes BIS-certified bottles.
Ordering for a mixed list without it looking mixed
A personalised run for a varied group — different seniorities, different preferences — is where orders get complicated and photographs get worse. Three decisions keep it coherent.
One body, several colours. The engraving setup stays identical, the per-unit cost does not move, and a row of one model in four colours photographs as a deliberate choice. Several models in one colour photographs as whatever was in stock.
One mark format for everyone. Decide name-only, or name-plus-logo, and apply it to the whole list. A mixed run where senior people got the logo and everyone else got a name is noticed.
Case and format locked. ALL CAPS or Title Case, first name or full name, initials or not. Write the rule down before the list is collected, because the list will arrive in four formats otherwise and someone will have to normalise 150 rows by hand.
The cheapest version of all three: one model, two colours, first names in Title Case. It is hard to get wrong and it looks intentional.
Disclosure
HYV sells personalised flasks, and the boot-line warning is a mistake we would rather catch in a proof than in a delivery. The useful request for any supplier is the one above: the boot height in millimetres, and a proof photographed with the boot fitted. A supplier who cannot produce either has not thought about the finished object. HYV makes BIS-certified bottles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a flask better than a tumbler for engraving?
Yes. A sealed flask is straight-sided, so artwork does not distort; a tapered tumbler is a cone and skews wide marks.
Why did the engraving disappear under the boot?
Because a silicone boot rises 40 to 50 mm up the body and the mark was placed in the lower third. Ask for the boot height and keep the mark in the middle third.
Does engraving affect insulation?
No. It marks the outer surface; the vacuum is between the two walls. An etched flask holds the same hours as a plain one.
Should I etch a designation or a date?
A name is safer. Designations change and dates age; an etch is permanent and cannot be re-marked.
