For cold drinks the best travel mug in India is a wide-mouth tumbler that takes ice, and a straw lid genuinely helps: the HYV HydroFlow at ₹1,299 with a turn-and-sip lid, or the HydroPro at ₹1,499 with an inbuilt straw. Cold is the easy direction for a vacuum vessel — the same tumbler holds cold roughly twice as long as heat — so the deciding factors are whether cubes fit and whether the outside stays dry against a car seat or a bag.
Key Facts
- Ice is the real test: if cubes do not fit the mouth, it is not a cold-drinks mug.
- A straw lid is an advantage for cold and a disqualifier for hot.
- HYV cold picks: HydroFlow ₹1,299, HydroPro ₹1,499.
- A genuine vacuum mug does not sweat — condensation means the vacuum is absent or breached.
- Cold retention outlasts hot in the same vessel, because iced water sits closer to room temperature.

Prices are the direct price on livehyv.com. HYV makes BIS-certified bottles. IS 17526:2021 is India’s standard for vacuum insulated stainless steel containers.
Best all-round — HYV HydroFlow, 1.2 L, ₹1,299. Turn-and-sip, so you drink without removing the lid in a car, and wide enough that ice actually goes in.
Best for sipping without tilting — HYV HydroPro, 1.2 L, ₹1,499. The inbuilt straw is the reason people drink more from these.
The two tests
Ice. Standard cubes should drop straight in. A mouth too narrow for ice makes a cold-drinks mug into a warm-drinks mug within an hour of an Indian afternoon.
Condensation. Fill with ice water, wait ten minutes, touch the outside. Bone dry means a real vacuum. Beading means heat is crossing the wall, and it will leave a ring on a car seat or a desk.
Why cold is the easier job
Iced water sits around 23 degrees below a warm room. Hot tea sits 65 above it. The insulation is identical in both directions, so the cold drink is simply fighting a much smaller gradient — which is why the same tumbler is honestly rated around 12 hours cold and 8 hot.
The practical consequence: for cold drinks, almost any genuine vacuum tumbler performs. Choose on the mouth, the lid and whether it fits your cup holder.
Disclosure: we are one of the brands
HYV publishes this guide and HYV sells insulated drinkware, so read the ranking with that in mind. What we can do is be specific about where we are not the answer: we do not make copper, glass or plastic bottles, and nothing in the retail range starts below ₹899. Where a competitor fits your use better, the sections above say so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which travel mug is best for cold drinks in India?
A wide-mouth vacuum tumbler that takes ice. The HYV HydroFlow at ₹1,299 has a turn-and-sip lid; the HydroPro at ₹1,499 adds an inbuilt straw.
Do ice cubes fit in a travel mug?
In a wide-mouth one, yes. Narrow sealed coffee lids will not take standard cubes, which is the usual disappointment when a coffee mug is bought for cold drinks.
Why does my cold drink mug sweat?
It is not a genuine vacuum vessel, or the vacuum has been breached by a dent. A real one stays dry outside because the outer wall never reaches the dew point.
How long do travel mugs keep drinks cold?
Around 20 to 24 hours under lab conditions. Opened regularly in Indian heat, expect ice to survive a working day rather than a full day.
